Whilst this means I’m generally a positive happy person (star sign characteristics are obviously facts), it does mean I can’t make a decision to save my life. This is enough of a problem when I can’t choose between cereal or toast for breakfast but an absolute nightmare when it comes to makeup.
Any money I don’t spend on food goes towards makeup and once I’m in the shopping flow, no product goes unnoticed. I love so many makeup brands and enjoy discovering new products even more that I could never choose just one. From foundation to highlighter, I always like to mix things up depending on my mood.
On top of that, as much as I love makeup I’m not the best at applying it. Attending masterclasses is my favourite way to learn trade secrets but these always have limitations. Demonstrations are usually only one brand and the products applied on a model that would look perfect no matter what. I’m left feeling I need to spend all my money on a whole new set of items with no idea how they will suit my face.
Thank the makeup gods for Harvey Nichols. My favourite beauty haunt has opened up a dedicated space to enjoy a combination of products from the best of the best. A secluded spot from the hustle and bustle of the store, The Studio offers the perfect makeover and more.
The unique thing about The Studio is that it houses the very best brands in beauty. Simply book yourself in with anyone from the talented team of beauty stylist and sit back with a glass of bubbly. If you’re more generous than me, you can even book a loved one in for the ultimate personalised beauty experience!
My makeover was with the lovely Zak Coldicutt, an award-winning MUA who’s worked all over the world. Zak really listened to my beauty dilemmas, my makeup hopes and dreams to produce two gorgeous looks.
First a natural look, ideal for day time that focused on gorgeous glowing skin and giving me my much wished for cheekbones. It was the perfect opportunity to combine some much loved brands with ones I’ve been very eager to try. A quick hydrating skin prep with my fave Rodial Dragon’s Blood skincare, followed by a dewy radiant base. It was my first time trying out Hourglass cosmetics and I was not disappointed. The Illusion Hyaluronic Moisturising Skin Tint glides on like a dream. Its Hyaluronan Complex helps plump my dehydrated skin and contains SPF15 to protect from sun damage. It’s essentially a miracle skin saviour in a bottle.
To my utter surprise, Zak worked his magic and finally gave my round face some cheekbone. Using the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer, he sculpted my cheeks and added some much needed warmth to my winter skin. This marbled powder is so beautiful I just had to add it to my collection.
Zak finished off my eyes with Fenty Beauty in Trophy Wife, giving my classic look a cheeky glamourous twist. The added shimmer of gold also makes this look easy to build on to take you from day to night.
Glam all the way
Since I don’t always have time to redo my makeup after work if I’m going out, Zak came up with an ideal solution. With my base already set, he elevated my eye look by adding statement purple eyeshadow. This really made the existing gold sparkle pop and was a colour I’d never worn before. Finished off with Fenty Beauty liquid lipstick in Stunna, I was in full blown glamour mode. This matte lipstick formula is one of the best I’ve tried. Very lightweight and non-drying it still packs a serious punch.
It was great to step out of my comfort zone by trying new colours and bolder combinations. I never would have thought about pairing a bright lip with a colourful eye but I’m in love. It’s eye-catching and dramatic and frankly I’m living for it.
Each full face, one hour makeover at The Studio is £50. This is fully redeemable on any product, includes a glass of HN prosecco and a goody bag. Ahhh yes the goody bag. Mine was filled with beauty treats from DHC, Fenty Beauty, Laura Mercier and even the cult skincare classic from La Mer!
I absolutely loved my Studio experience. From champagne, chit-chat and cosmetics it has everything you could ever need from a makeover. Not only have I discovered a new love affair with Hourglass Cosmetics but I’ve learnt some easy tips and tricks to fit in my routine.
Makeup really has no limits and The Studio is the perfect beauty exploration,
