I have a confession. I used to despise coffee. In any form, whether latte, cappuccino, even coffee cake. I found the taste too unusual and the smell overpowering. Then in 2013, I spent a few months working in Bangkok, Thailand and I was confronted with the fact that no where sold tea! After searching every cafe and kiosk and only coming up with Tesco lotus value tea bags, I was forced to admit defeat and that coffee was the only way!
Fast forward to today and I am obsessed with the stuff, and there is nothing I love more than an espresso macchiato to set me up for a long day ahead. However, one thing I love even more than my morning coffee is coffee coloured makeup. Americano hued lipstick and cortado blended eyeshadow, coffee makeup is the new nude. Bold enough to feel daring but still classic. Here are some of my favourites.
Urban decay matte lipstick in 1993. It may not have a coffee related name but this lipstick embodies everything a great cup of joe delivers. Urban Decay matte revolution lipsticks are so creamy and velvety to apply, you almost forget it is matte. However, this non-drying throwback to the 90s delivers intensely pigmented colour for a seriously modern look.
I like to pair 1993 with Ciate nail polish in Mines a Mocha. With an ever so slight shimmer, this nail polish is perfect to go with a matte lip and the hint of gold adds a touch of warmth to your hands, perfect for a little lunch date.
If you fancy something a little more polished (pardon the pun), I love Get in the Expresso Lane by OPI. This almost black but still espresso nail varnish has that touch of unusual about it and leaves your nails with a high shine, sophisticated look that can be quite tricky to pull off with other dark brown polishes.
Of course no coffee inspired look would be complete without coffee flavoured eyeshadow courtesy of Makeup Geek. Every one should have a collection of brown eyeshadows. They act as a neutral that compliment every skin tone and work whatever your eye colour. Blue eyes pop and brown eyes smoulder. Shades of brown work for any day time look or can be intensified for a smokey eye in the evening.
This look was created using the following makeup geek eyeshadows:
Vanilla bean – inner eye
Latte – middle to outer eye lid
Mocha – crease
Americano – outer eye and along lash line
Makeup Geek obviously know the importance of each type of coffee, because when it came to making these barista style eyeshadows the colours are amazing. Latte is a gorgeous warm light brown, Mocha is that perfect mix of chocolate and coffee all blended into one and Americano is a deep brown with the subtlest of purple notes. All makeup geek eyeshadows are highly pigmented and a dream to apply.
So with my coffee makeup complete, I am off to make myself a cappuccino!
