*Warning*
What you’re about to read and the pictures you are about to see will definitely cause subsequent need to spend money and buy this perfume!
Ahh Jo Malone you can do no wrong, just when I’m soldiering on with my reduced spending plan (I can’t say ban because that just isn’t feasible for me!), you bring out a brand new fragrance that is the epitome of Spring. I didn’t even really think I needed a new perfume until I caught a whiff of their new scent Star Magnolia.
Obviously, the first thing I have to mention is the bottle. Oh the bottle. It’s next to me as I write this, and it truly is the prettiest bottle I’ve ever seen. It’s the usual rectangle Jo Malone bottle, but with gorgeous white to translucent ombre glass, finished off with a beautiful ivory petal adornment around the lid. Classic and chic.
After seeing photos of Star Magnolia, I immediately decided I needed it, but like a grown adult reasoned I had to actually smell the perfume first before purchasing. So one really sunny spring Saturday, which I took as an extra sign from the perfume gods that I needed it, I popped down to Harvey Nichols to check out this latest addition to the Jo Malone family.
When I arrived, I went straight over to Jo Malone and the Star Magnolia display. This is where things got difficult, as not only is there the classic 30 ml and 100 ml cologne but also a hair mist! Yes you heard that right, a hair mist! Trying to control my excitement I repeated to myself I needed to see if I liked the scent.
Star Magnolia is described as a delightful combination of floral and fruity notes that encapsulates Spring’s sparkling charm. The heart of this fragrance is of course the delicate white magnolia blossoms, married with a tantalising kiss of lemon and ginger. The layering of different taste notes is as always incredible, consisting of separate distinct scents that come together to create that exceptional cohesiveness mastered in all Jo Malone perfumes. When I first tried this cologne, I was initially hit with vibrant lemon complimented by a zing of ginger. This was followed by the floral, almost creaminess of the magnolia blossom intertwined with orange blossom. It is crisp, clean scent that is wholly uplifting, whilst still embodying perfect flirtatious femininity.
You may think you already have a floral-fruity fragrance, but Jo Malone Star Magnolia is combined in such a way, I am confident you won’t have experienced a scent like it. Personally, I absolutely adore Jo Malone Orange Blossom, and didn’t think I required another floral scent, but Star Magnolia provides extra depth to a perfume that can be worn throughout spring, and would be excellent layered with other fragrances to transition into Summer.
Plus the bottle looks totally cute on my dressing table!
