Oh how I wish I could say I was. Always keeping up to date with trends. Changing my outfit styles every season. Exiting my front door with a well thought out outfit with complimentary accessories. That would be the ultimate dream. I fantasise about always being photo ready whatever the occasion, even down to my underwear. Lacy La Perla’s that you wouldn’t be ashamed of if you got run over is something I think about on a daily basis.
Admittedly, my bank balance is a big part of not always focusing on fashion. I earn a decent amount as a PhD student, but with my rent, food, bills and my massive makeup addiction it only stretches so far. Fashion changes so quickly, it would be impossible for my budget to keep up. Any left over money I do have is spent on clothes I’ve nabbed in the sale. 90% off, yes please!
The truth is I just don’t have the time….
Ok that’s a lie.
The truth is I’m just lazy.
Those of you who watch my Instastories will know I have a collection of over 40 scarves courtesy of my mum the scarf maniac. I have 4 wardrobes full of clothes and yet most days, I wake up, shower, pick the same black leggings I wore yesterday off the floor, quickly find a t-shirt and voila!
Obviously, I do wear clean underwear and socks, although I do happen to know a guy who wears the same pair of socks for a whole week (let’s not think about that shall we). Nevertheless, if I can make it out of the house wearing some form of clothing and make it into work then I count that as a win.
So can I really refer to myself as a fashion blogger? What even is a fashion blogger? Someone who talks about fashion right? Well, I like to think I do that. You want to nail that ‘mom’ jean trend, I’m your gal. If you’re after a tailored, camel trench that doesn’t cost Burberry prices, look no further. High street or designer, I can talk the talk and walk the walk but I don’t think it’s essential.
I feel like huge fashion empires and global magazines such as Vogue make you feel inadequate. Page after page of gorgeous models with perfect makeup, perfect hair and of course perfect outfits. Even within the blogging world, I often feel like a fashion fraud. Not a day goes past where I don’t see a blogger nonchalantly leaving their house in the latest styles whether it’s for a blog post or not! Yes I could put thought into my outfit every day but unless someone is going to see it, what’s the point? I don’t believe you have to dress to impress 24/7 to be deemed fashionable. I shoot as many looks as I can but I just can’t keep up. However, I’m starting to realise that’s not actually necessary.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, just because I’m not fashion focused 100% of the time, doesn’t mean I’m not fashion forward. Maybe I’m not the ultimate fashion blogger but I do blog about fashion and if that makes me below average, so be it!
