Well here we are LOCKDOWN! I hope you’re all doi Well here we are LOCKDOWN! I hope you’re all doing ok?
I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to do over this time period and how to get the most out of it.
Being the final 6 months of my PhD, I will have to start writing my thesis now instead of later but to break that time up with more fun things (not that science isn’t fun 🙄). I’m thinking baking, play the piano and experimenting with makeup! It doesn’t matter that no one is going to see my makeup or hear me play, I’m doing it for me but at the same time I’m not going to force myself to do to anything I don’t feel like or feel pressured to learn something new or start something big just because we have this time.
I think it’s important to take a break and reset without anything or anyone sucking your energy. Only do things that you really want to and help you feel better now and for the future when this is over.
What are your plans for lockdown?
For me makeup is art. Your face is the canvas and For me makeup is art. Your face is the canvas and the fact you can take any colour/finish/texture and create something that completely reflects your personality and mood is amazing and yes maybe it also fuels my need to have so many pretty palettes!! The @jackieaina @anastasiabeverlyhills eyeshadow palette is incredible! The colours are soooooo pigmented but still really wearable. It’s like a work of art itself.

Who else loves earrings?! I really need to wear th Who else loves earrings?! I really need to wear them more often because 1. Jabbing them through the piercing that has been empty for months is no fun and games 😂 and 2. They just elevate your look to the next level!! Seriously, whether they’re long, studs, gold, sparkly, colourful, patterned, they make me feel so put together. 2020 is my year for accessorising!
Gifted| Back to work and I’m really not here for Gifted| Back to work and I’m really not here for it! What I am here for is these natural Wispies eyelashes from @ardellbeauty. I do love false lashes but because I don’t have a lot of lid space, I find they always look heavy and unnatural on me so I give up and they get shoved in a drawer. That’s why I was dubious at first with these but the second I put them on, I fell in love. The natural style adds volume to my lashes without looking heavy and really do pass as being my own, even in person!! They’re easy to put on as the band is nice and flexible and stay put throughout the day. These are my lashes for sure! Have you tried Ardell lashes before?

YSL Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils The Curler

YSL The Curler – The secret to better lashes?

Apart from the famous Touche Eclat, when I think of Yves Saint Laurent, the first thing I think of is mascaras. With six in total, YSL take mascaras very seriously, with each one tailored to solve any of your lash dilemmas. Always looking to take your lashes to the next level, YSL Beauty have released the Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils The Curler with matching primer. The question is, do we need another mascara and is this the one?

Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils Flash Primer £26

When it comes to my face, I wouldn’t dream of applying my foundation without a primer. It makes my skin smoother, more even and makes my foundation last longer. However, there’s something about eyelash primers I can’t seem to get my head around. I always find they dry so quickly and go on too thick, that by the time I apply my mascara I’m left with lashes that could be mistaken for an arachnid!

So when YSL released the Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils Flash Primer, I was a little dubious but in true beauty obsessed style more than willing to give it the old college try.

This primer instantly grabs my attention as it emerges from the tube a delicate pink formula. It has a classic straight brush with separated soft plastic bristles that glide evenly over each lash. As this primer grips to the lash, it dries to leave the ideal base for any YSL mascara. It contains two revitalising ingredients – Ceramid R and Panthenol (vitamin B5) to help moisturise and ensure lashes stay hydrated from root to tip.

True to their word, I found this mascara really easy to apply and I could visibly see it coating all lashes, even the tiny ones. Without resulting in clumpy lashes, I found it separated them well and built up the fine tips of each lash to make them appear thicker and longer. The trick to using a primer is to not wait too long before applying your mascara. One quick coat followed by immediate mascara application, allowed me to build up without difficulty.

So is a primer essential to your beauty regime? I definitely noticed my lashes looked longer with the primer but not in an obvious dramatic way. The one thing it did do was make my mascara last longer. After applying it to only one eye, I noticed by the end of the day, the one without primer had transferred more onto the surrounding skin (no more panda eyes, woohoo!). Combined with the hydrating ingredients, I’ll definitely be including it in my routine from now on.

Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils The Curler £26

Faux Cils The Curler? Sounds exactly the kind of mascara I love.  My lashes aren’t necessarily short but they are quite straight and I’m always wishing my lashes had a bit more oomph. With breakthrough brush technology and a curl enhancing formula, the Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils The Curler is said to be so good, you can wave goodbye to your lash curlers! Now that’s quite a claim.

The Curler has two distinct sides, a black bristled rounded fibre side that provides volume, with a pink comb on the other side to add instant lift and curl. This mascara wraps around lashes provide a lifting effect as it dries to produce some serious curl power. The dense texture adds volume at the base and can be built on when desired. Just like the primer, this mascara is infused with caring ingredients – coconut oil, walnut leave extract and jojoba oil to nourish lashes, keeping them soft, supple and shiny.

Unlike the YSL Vinyl Couture mascara (which I own and love) this mascara is no where near as wet. This makes it so much easier to keep lashes defined and stop them clumping. In fact it’s quite a relief not to spend ages on an eye look then hold my breath in the hopes I won’t ruin it with massive blobs on my lid. I like to take my time applying mascara but sometimes life doesn’t allow me to spend 15 minutes faffing about with my lashes so the combination of brush style and drier formula of The Curler is a time-saving winner. I found you don’t need to be too precise when applying it and the curved shape really hugs my lashes ensuring I coat each one. It’s really easy to fully load the base of my lashes giving me the dramatic volume I always crave.

The Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils The Curler is perfect for day time and evening occasions when you don’t want the hassle of falsies. This really is a no-fuss, volume building, lash curling magic wand all wrapped up in gorgeous rose gold packaging.
