Well here we are LOCKDOWN! I hope you’re all doi Well here we are LOCKDOWN! I hope you’re all doing ok?
I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to do over this time period and how to get the most out of it.
Being the final 6 months of my PhD, I will have to start writing my thesis now instead of later but to break that time up with more fun things (not that science isn’t fun 🙄). I’m thinking baking, play the piano and experimenting with makeup! It doesn’t matter that no one is going to see my makeup or hear me play, I’m doing it for me but at the same time I’m not going to force myself to do to anything I don’t feel like or feel pressured to learn something new or start something big just because we have this time.
I think it’s important to take a break and reset without anything or anyone sucking your energy. Only do things that you really want to and help you feel better now and for the future when this is over.
What are your plans for lockdown?
For me makeup is art. Your face is the canvas and For me makeup is art. Your face is the canvas and the fact you can take any colour/finish/texture and create something that completely reflects your personality and mood is amazing and yes maybe it also fuels my need to have so many pretty palettes!! The @jackieaina @anastasiabeverlyhills eyeshadow palette is incredible! The colours are soooooo pigmented but still really wearable. It’s like a work of art itself.
What’s your favourite ABH palette?

Who else loves earrings?! I really need to wear th Who else loves earrings?! I really need to wear them more often because 1. Jabbing them through the piercing that has been empty for months is no fun and games 😂 and 2. They just elevate your look to the next level!! Seriously, whether they’re long, studs, gold, sparkly, colourful, patterned, they make me feel so put together. 2020 is my year for accessorising!
Gifted| Back to work and I’m really not here for Gifted| Back to work and I’m really not here for it! What I am here for is these natural Wispies eyelashes from @ardellbeauty. I do love false lashes but because I don’t have a lot of lid space, I find they always look heavy and unnatural on me so I give up and they get shoved in a drawer. That’s why I was dubious at first with these but the second I put them on, I fell in love. The natural style adds volume to my lashes without looking heavy and really do pass as being my own, even in person!! They’re easy to put on as the band is nice and flexible and stay put throughout the day. These are my lashes for sure! Have you tried Ardell lashes before?

Eyebrows the ABH way

*Some of these Anastasia Beverly Hills products were kindly gifted to me. However, I went back to ABH to get my eyebrows done as I truly love all the products and look. – Thanks to the ABH team at Beauty Bazaar Liverpool for my perfect brows (video at end of post)

If eyes are the window to the soul. then surely eyebrows are the frame and we all want a swanky perfect looking frame right? I have a love-hate relationship with my brows. After years of plucking (only 90s kids will remember) and a habit of touching them when I’m bored/stressed/thinking/breathing I’ve been left with sparse patches and an undefined shape.

I always do my best to fill them in (I do live in Liverpool, so a poor brow game is not acceptable) but I never look in the mirror and think WOW, my eyebrows are on fleek! Is that still a term we use? Either way my eyebrows are pretty lacklustre and if I look too closely, the fact one is higher than the other starts to become so obvious I could be Spock’s twin.

Anastasia Beverley Hills needs no introduction. Famous for their incredible eyeshadow palettes such as Modern Renaissance and the controversial Subculture, which you can read about here and here, ABH actually started out in the brow business.

Equipped with her own unique brow shaping method, Anastasia became THE person to know if you wanted great eyebrows. Consequently she created a collection of products for people to achieve that perfect ABH brow at home and now with the launch of Anastasia Beverly Hills in Harvey Nichols stores across the UK, it’s never been easier to pop in and get your frame in shape – the ABH way.

ABH Golden Ratio and Stencils

Inspired by nature’s Golden Ratio, the key to proportion, balance and facial symmetry, Anastasia applied this concept to shaping brows. Her patented method is a foolproof way to create proportioned eyebrows and the perfect frame that suits any face shape.

To start your Anastasia Beverly Hills brow journey, first draw on your Golden Ration points with a flat brush and ABH Brow Powder Duo.

Golden Ratio points:

  1. Brows should begin directly above the middle of your nostril.
  2. The arch and highest point of your brow connects the tip of your nose and middle of the iris.
  3. Brows should end where the corner of the nostril connects with the outer corner of the eye.

After establishing your Golden Ratio, find the stencil that most closely matches your natural eyebrow shape. From here, line the your markings with the ones on the stencil and begin your brow transformation.

ABH Brow Powder Duo

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo is my new love. It’s the first step in filling out brows and creating your shape. It contains two shades allowing you to mix your own unique shade as well as create an ombre look to stop your brows looking flat.

Always apply from your arch first, working out towards the tail, finishing off at the beginning of the brow. This way you won’t overload the start of your eyebrows with product which can making you look fuming. It’s not resting brow face after all! Likewise, the lighter colour is better closer to your inner eye, to keep your face open and bright.

The powder is lovely to apply and whilst easy to blend it’s not too powdery so you don’t need to worry about fallout. It’s lightweight and is the ideal consistency to slowly build up and layer. ABH recommend using the powder first as it’s easier to remove if you make any mistakes and provides that initial visual for placements of future products.

ABH Brow Definer

The triangular tip of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer has three distinct sides to fill, define and add detail. It’s important to apply this retractable pencil in feather-like strokes to create the appearance of hairs for the most natural look. It’s ideal for filling out sparse areas and applied over the top of the powder adds realistic texture. Brush through with the spoolie end for a blended finish.

DipBrow Pomade

Anastasia Beverly Hills’ classic Dipbrow Pomade has a waterproof formula to keep your brows going longer than you can. Forget that phase we all went through of colouring in our whole brows with pomade. That was soooo 2016-17, we’re nearly into the new decade and that look needs to be left behind along with bralettes and ripped denim.

Brow pomade is to be applied in a similar way to pencil, in fine strokes creating the illusion of hairs. Using an angled brush, pick up a small amount of product and start from the arch and work out. The difference between this and the Definer or Brow Wiz is all about texture. No section of your eyebrow is the same and by using different formulas and finishes, you can create that unique detail required for fullness and definition.

DipBrow Gel

Finally set your look with the Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Gel. This full coverage matte gel provides a big colour payoff without looking too heavy. The bristles are soft and the brush picks up just enough product to lightly coat and not clog your brows. It’s a no-mess solution to building the appearance of fullness and a three-dimensional finish.

I’m a big fan of the DipBrow Gel as it works well with other brow products or completely on its own. Use it when you want to go big with your brows or if you want to look a little more polished in a few swipes of a brush.

ABH Brows are the Ultimate Brows

If you’re thinking do I really need more than one product just for my eyebrows, the short answer is yes! Each item does something different and adds an extra level to your overall look.

If you consider the rest of your beauty/makeup regime you build up layers for a more complete, natural look. For your face, you prep and prime, apply a base and then add shape with contour, blush and highlight.

Even with your hair, you have it cut and shaped, possibly even dyed, followed by styling, all to create a look that has more depth and highlights your best bits. So why not do the same with your eyebrows?

Layer different textures and formulas to create a fully three-dimensional finish that looks beautifully natural. What’s even better is that each product in Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow collection comes in a huge range of shades and undertones so you’ll always be able to find your perfect match no matter what.

I highly recommend popping into your local Harvey Nichols and visiting the Anastasia Beverly Hills counter to get your eyebrows done for you. It’s free to get done, although I promise you’ll want to buy all the products straight afterwards! It’s the Brow Revolution and it’s time to get onboard the ABH way. B x
